The first screen of a dashboard should answer the most important question quickly. More charts do not automatically mean more insight.
Start with the decision
Ask what the viewer needs to decide after looking at the dashboard. Build the first screen around that decision.
Show the headline metrics
Use a small number of meaningful KPIs with context such as previous period, target or benchmark.
Explain movement
A trend is more useful when the dashboard helps the viewer investigate the drivers behind the change.
Remove decorative noise
Every chart should earn its space. If a visual does not support a question or decision, remove it.
